MAINSTREAM WRESTLING IS LIVE FROM LOUISVILLE AND WE’RE INSIDE THE YUM! CENTER...HOME OF YOUR LOUISVILLE CARDINALS!
“Leather Teeth” hits the speakers as Biggs makes his entrance into the arena with the Mainstream Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship slung over his shoulder. He is clad in a Scream t-shirt, one that re-imagines Scream as a 1960’s Giallo style slasher, and black shorts. The fans have a mixed reaction to him as he heads straight down to the time keeper’s area, snatching a mic before walking up the steps and entering the ring.
BIGGS: Please cut my music. Just cut it…
The music stops.
BIGGS: Two weeks ago should have been one of the most joyous nights of my career. Not only was I reunited with an old friend in Sally Talfourd, but I put that reckless, dirty ragamuffin Jason Cashe down for the count of three! My good friend Lex Collins regained the Mainstream United States Championship! But therein lies the problem, because as much as I love and respect Lex Collins as a brother, I could not stand to watch HOW he won back the United States Championship. I’m not gonna lie, the past month-and-a-half with Lex has been, well lack of a better term, strained. Lex, you’ve rejected my calls, left my text messages unanswered, and when we do show up to work, you’ve asked for your space. I’ve given you all of that. I understand how frustrating and annoying it is to deal with a jerk like Arrogant Jackass Knight, but I can’t help but feel like you’re leaving Bobby and myself hanging! So I’m asking you, man to man, please, come down here and talk.
“One Finger and a Fist,” by Drowning Pool, plays throughout the arena, and the fans are letting Lex Collins have it as he walks out onto the stage. He pays them no mind, tapping the Mainstream Wrestling United States Championship Belt slung over his shoulder before making his way down to the ramp. As he enters the ring, Biggs comes in to try and hug him, but Lex puts his hand up, telling Biggs to stay back. “The Spaceman” obliges, taking a few steps back.
LEX COLLINS: Must’ve been a busy week, huh? You knew where to find me. We coulda done this in the back, y’know – in private. Didn’t need to make a big show of this in public.
BIGGS: I’m sorry Lex, but after the past month-and-a-half, I really felt like this was the only way that you’d answer me.
LEX COLLINS: So you thought the only way you’d reach me is through the threat of public humiliation? Some friend…
BIGGS: Lex, you know that’s not the case! The fact of the matter is that I have been incredibly worried about you. You’ve let AJ Knight get into your head, you’ve allowed him to compromise your morals. You’ve allowed that arrogant, self-aggrandizing,manipulative prick to be right about you. When he said that you couldn’t beat him without cheating, that’s when you should have gone out there, do what you always do, and show him how wrong he was! You didn’t have to stoop to his level! You didn’t!
There are tears forming in Biggs’ eyes. Lex appears to be emotionless.
LEX COLLINS: Let him get in my head? You hearing yourself, man? From day one, you were puffin’ me up… acting like you wanted me to step up, be the best version of myself. And now you got buyers remorse the moment I dig down deep an’ decide it's time to quit turning the other cheek? You go soft when I start to fight back?
Biggs is stammering, obviously on the back foot. This wasn’t going the way he was hoping.
BIGGS: When I left the commentary desk, Lex, it wasn’t because I chose to stop supporting you. It’s that supporting you in what you were doing in that moment was breaking my heart…
Lex sharply cuts Biggs off, miming the playing of the world’s smallest violin.
LEX COLLINS: Spare me the sob story. See, the thing is I’m sick of soaking up the blows and having [bleep] all to show for it. I’ve been layin’ foundations for years, then kickin’ myself for letting people run roughshod… lettin’ ‘em tear it all down. I committed myself to a cause, made myself accountable only to end up disappointed time and time again. Just so we’re clear, you’re gonna draw the line at what? A handful of tights? A cheap shot before the bell? Innocent blood on my hands in the heat of the moment? Where’s the line, Biggs? Just so I know how deep that stripe of hypocrisy goes.
His comments no doubt sting Biggs, and the World Champ is taken a back a bit before regaining his resolve, responding passionately and with conviction.
BIGGS: You’re better than this, Lex, and you know it. It’s one of the main reasons I invited you to join the Smokin’ Aces, because you did things the right way. No shortcuts, no BS. Unlike everyone else in this company, we held ourselves to an actual standard. We showed respect to this great sport that nobody else does. Yes, Bobby and I have fallen short of that standard a time or two, but we always relented, always repented. If you want a line, here it is, we can make a mistake once, but we can’t make the same mistake twice. We learn from our mistakes, find a better way.
Lex taps the title belt on his shoulder.
LEX COLLINS: Looks to me like I’ve found a better way. And it’s only a matter of time before I find an even better way.
Lex reaches over and taps the World Heavyweight Championship on Biggs’ shoulder. Biggs pulls back, recoiling from the man whom just moments ago he considered one of his closest friends.
BIGGS: Well by virtue of your win in the Pinnacle Battle Royale, you are due a shot. Had you told me then that by now I would shudder at the prospect of giving you that title match, I would have called you a liar. I would have proudly defended my title against you, against a man whom I respected, against a man whom I considered my brother. You want this World Heavyweight Championship, come and take it from me. But in doing so, promise me that you’ll do it the right way! Promise me that you’ll give me a clean match, that we’ll see whom the better man truly is! We’re the gosh darn Smokin’ Aces! Why don’t we just get this over with in two weeks, at Mainstream 105.
LEX COLLINS: We were the Smokin’ Ace. Now? I dunno. This whole thing here…this is on you. You wanna say I've changed? You wanna act like a jealous pick, I'll gladly take you up on that offer. Put you down and take some weight offa your shoulders. Don’t be mistaken, I will do whatever I see fit to claim the World Heavyweight Title. Whatever it takes to prove I'm the best in this business. If you think what I did to AJ was bad, ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
Suddenly a voice comes from the ramp.
AJ KNIGHT: I was hoping you’d say that!
AJ saunters out with a microphone and a piece of paper in hand. Biggs has no desire to see him or hear him speak. Neither does Lex.
BIGGS: You turn around right now! This has nothing to do with you!
AJ looks actually pissed to hear Biggs say this.
AJ KNIGHT: Well to hear you tell it, this has EVERYTHING to do with me! Because apparently Lex Collins’ decisions are my fault right? Just because you’re afraid to accept the fact that the man you call your best friend could make a bad decision all on his own. That he doesn’t really care about you, that maybe just maybe your moral judgment isn’t infallible. That maybe you were wrong!
BIGGS: I’m supposed to take that from you, Arrogant Jackass? You don’t care about anybody but yourself!
AJ KNIGHT: I don’t care about anybody but myself? The moment I noticed the ref went down, my first concern was getting him some help. Lex’s first concern was finding somebody to count his pin. How does that factor into your assessment? But sure, this self-centered prick is the better man!
Biggs is searching for a comeback, but he’s drawing a total blank. Lex leans over the ropes.
LEX COLLINS: I can’t make out what you’re saying. Why don’t you come a bit closer where my right hand can hear you?
AJ KNIGHT: I’d plant you on your head before the punch even landed. Unlike you, my DDTs can actually finish people. I’m up here for your safety, not mine. Frankly I’m looking for an excuse at this point. This is personal between us. But right now, I’m here on business. Namely the contract for our championship match last time out. Namely article 5: Rematch Clause.
Lex shouts AJ down.
LEX COLLINS: You can take that rematch clause and stick it up your ass! As far as I’m concerned you and I are done, I’ve got nothing left to prove! Mainstream 105, I settle up with Biggs, and take what I deserve and leave you narcissistic pricks in the dust! You deserve each other! Maybe you guys can fight for the US title, while I take center stage this time!
AJ’s smirk grows bigger
AJ KNIGHT: You know Lex, I’m starting to wonder if you actually read our contract. Just because I turned over a new leaf, doesn’t mean I forgot the tricks. I knew you were going to try to pull something like this, so I played with the language for our rematch clause. Maybe you skimmed over our rematch clause, it’s pretty standard. Let me read it to you “In the event the agreed upon bout results in a title change, the ex-champion will be entitled to an opportunity to regain the United States championship… At a date and time to be determined by the Ex-champion.”
Lex gets a grin on his face.
LEX COLLINS: You want your rematch now? Bring it!
AJ laughs.
AJ KNIGHT: No… I want a different date and time. Say… The main event of Mainstream 105?
Both Lex and Biggs are outraged.
LEX COLLINS: You can’t do that! The contract from the Pinnacle Battle Royal says I get a title shot whenever I want it!
AJ KNIGHT: Funny, the contract that you signed gives me a similar right. But neither of them say that the match in question has to be a singles match. Kevin Bombay found himself in quite a pickle. Two contracts that he had to fulfill. So I offered him a solution. Two falls! Two Titles! AJ Knight Vs. Lex Collins Vs. Spaceman Biggs. Fall 1: US Title, Fall 2: World Heavyweight title! You can leave with one belt, both belts or no belt! And I intend to take both!
Biggs explodes!
BIGGS: You sneaky bastard! You have no right!
AJ KNIGHT: This is why you don’t play these games with the smartest man in wrestling!
BIGGS: You are the only one who calls you that!
AJ KNIGHT: Maybe they should start. I just put myself in position to win the top two belts in the company, and put my two biggest enemies down in the process.
AJ drops the mic and backs up the ramp!
