BACKSTAGE…
CHRIS MADISON: This is it… Mainstream Wrestlin’s fifth anniversary show! On a stacked card you get James Edwards versus Chris Madison, headlinin’ the night with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line! It doesn’t get any bigger than this!
The reigning Mainstream Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion cracks a proud grin as he adjusts the championship that is drapes over his shoulder.
CHRIS MADISON: This is your moment James. This is the opportunity that you’ve clamored for since finding your way back to Mainstream Wrestling. The only problem is that the man standin’ across from you may be the one person in this industry who has regularly given you fits in that ring. You can’t ignore it. There’s no running from it. In order for this journey of yours to come full circle and achieve that goal of winnin’ a second World Championship, you have to find a way to beat me, one on one. We both know our track record, I don’t need to stand here and give a history lecture. Let me assure you, if you thought it was tough goin’ up against me in the past, you’re in for a rough night!
Madison looks down at shoulder, glancing at the Mainstream World Heavyweight Championship for a brief moment before reconnecting with the camera crew.
CHRIS MADISON: For me, this is personal.
He pauses while holding his hand up, waving his finger from side to side.
CHRIS MADISON: But not for the reasons that you may be thinkin’… Are we the best of friends? No… I think it’s safe to say that neither of us really care for each other. Still, I respect what you’re capable of and your devotion to perfectin’ your craft. Am I holdin’ a grudge because of the way things played out with Violent Intent? Despite them interferin’ in our match and then the coincidental blow I took in our tag team championship match, I completely understand that sometimes these things happen. What makes this personal to me is how you’ve so nonchalantly continued this ongoin’ charade. You’ve lied to this fanbase, portrayin’ a man who is so invested in becomin’ the next Mainstream Wrestlin’ World Heavyweight Champion. Lockin’ yourself away so that you can pour everythin’ you have into this match. When in reality all you’ve done is turn your back on them and spit in their faces!
Madison nods his head as the crowds boos can be heard reverberating through the halls of T-Mobile Park
CHRIS MADISON: How dumb do you think they are?
He pauses while waiting for the audience to quiet down.
CHRIS MADISON: The truth? You knew you had your match. The work was done. And in the meantime, you gave yourself the time to go off and compete in UWL, in PWV, in MWE… All while I’m here, night in and night out, givin’ them everythin’ I got! The World Heavyweight Champion is supposed to be the standard. They’re supposed to be the face of the company, the man or woman that everyone comes to see. These fans, they deserve as much - not a champion who’ll be absent…
Madison raises his hands and air quotes himself.
CHRIS MADISON: ...preparin’ himself for his next challenger…
He lowers his hands and shakes his head.
CHRIS MADISON: ...while tourin’ all over the world in other companies. I’m endin’ this charade tonight James. The next time you get want an opportunity at this championship, you’re goin’ to have to show this locker room some respect and fight for it!
