BACKSTAGE…
VOICE: Just remember, you wanted this.
The grizzled voice is heard before the video feed cuts backstage. We find Chris Madison sitting on top of a large rolling production case in a secluded part of the arena. His eyes are pointed down, affixed to the Mainstream Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship that lays in his lap.
CHRIS MADISON: Tonight is all about opportunity Emma… For weeks now, you’ve made it crystal clear that you feel slighted for not havin’ a proper opportunity to earn this World Heavyweight Championship. Bein’ involved in the Grand Prix tournament, in which you saw a first round exit, wasn’t good enough for you. You deserve better. You deserve a free pass to the front of the line like Skye Healy and Cartier. Why wasn’t Emma Douglas a part of the championship showcase? You were so torn by not having a spot in that match that you took it upon yourself to come down to the ring with Sage Lowry and interfere in my title defense against James Edwards.
Madison shook his head as he stared forward into the camera lens.
CHRIS MADISON: As much as I enjoy watchin’ James Edwards get his ass handed to him, it wasn’t the time or the place to do so. I feel like I’m a decent guy. I’m approachable. I’m always open to hearin’ out potential opponents. You wanted a championship match, all you had to do is ask… You didn’t need to stick your nose where it didn’t belong. Because of you, there’s still unfinished business between him and I. But you got what you wanted. Maybe not instantly. But you became a part of the conversation and then after pinnin’ James Edwards in a Tornado Tag Match for the titles, you’ve been anointed as a contender and given that championship match you were lookin’ for.
Madison plants one of his hands on the top of the large case and pushes off, hoping to his feet. He slings the World Heavyweight Championship over his shoulder and glances down at his shoulder as he adjusts it.
CHRIS MADISON: I just can’t help but wonder, why you…
Madison scratches his head.
CHRIS MADISON: Like I said, you had your opportunity. You failed to make the most of it when James Edwards made Blake O’Reilly tap out. The whole argument that you weren’t a factor in the fall means shit to me. You’ve been in this business long enough to know that no matter how you look at it, you FAILED. You failed to capitalize on the opportunity in front of you and now we all have to suffer through the hissy fit you’re throwin’.
He pauses for a moment and chuckles.
CHRIS MADISON: Oddly enough, if this were comin’ from your partner, I’d actually agree with her. Sage Lowry, one half of the Mainstream Wrestlin’ Tag Team Champions… Was not included in the Grand Prix Tournament that crowned a new World Heavyweight Champion. Was not a part of the championship showcase at Mainstream Seventy-Two. She has an actual gripe. Instead she solemnly stands by your side, encouragin’ you as you take what could be argued as her opportunity. She was just as much of a part of that tag team title match against Edwards and I as you were. Yet not a peep. I’ll tell you what Sage, cause I know you’ll be out there gettin’ a close look at your partner as she fails to capitalize on another opportunity. After the match is over, if you’re feelin’ up to it, just ask and the championship match is yours. In the meantime, Emma, I hope you’re content with the fact that your selfishness is takin’ opportunities away from your own partner. Later on, when this arena clears out and you’re sittin’ in your locker room, reflectin’ on where you went wrong, I want you to take a moment and look into Sage’s eyes. Acknowledge the deep seeded disappointment that will manifest in her eyes as she stares back at you, reassurin’ you that everythin’ is ok. In that very moment, don’t forget, you wanted this…
Madison scowls at the camera, pausing for a moment before walking off.
