MAINSTREAM WRESTLING IS LIVE FROM COLLEGE PARK AND WE’RE INSIDE THE XFINITY CENTER FOR MAINSTREAM 72!
“War Machine” by KISS begins to screech over the arena’s PA system, pulling the crowd to their feet. It isn’t long before the newly crowned Mainstream Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Madison, steps out through the curtain. After taking a few steps forward, Madison stands front and center, with the entrance ramp at his feet in front of him and his manager, Frankie Morrison at his side. He pats the main plate of the World Heavyweight Championship that is secured firmly around his waist and cracks a smile as the energetic fans begin to sing along with the chorus.
Better watch out
‘Cause I’m a war machine
Better watch out
‘Cause I’m a war machine
‘Cause I’m a war machine
Better watch out
‘Cause I’m a war machine
Madison makes his way ringside, climbing the steel steps and pouncing through the ropes. Morrison follows closely, immediately making his way towards the ring announcer after entering the ring to collect a microphone for his client. Madison scales the ropes in the corner. Standing on the middle rope, he reaches behind his back to unsnap the World Heavyweight Championship before lifting it high above his head. Madison hops backwards, landing on his feet on the canvas. He drapes the Mainstream Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship over his shoulder and then is handed a microphone by Frankie Morriosn.
CHRIS MADISON: Man this just feels right!
The fans in attendance erupt and shower Madison with a thunderous applause before beginning to chant, “You Deserve It”. Madison soaks in the admiration for a moment, nodding his head to the rhythm of the chant.
CHRIS MADISON: Honestly, thank you.
Madison places his free hand over his heart and bows slightly as a sign of appreciation.
CHRIS MADISON: I’m sure this is the last outcome that anyone thought would come to fruition at Mainstream Seventy-One. Mainstream’s main event scene has been in shambles since Mariano Fernandez beat Julianna DiMaria for the World Heavyweight Championship and left this beauty layin’ in the center of the ring at No Remorse.
Madison pauses as he looks down at the championship resting on his shoulder.
CHRIS MADISON: But as one door closes, another door opens… Manny’s decision forced management to throw together a Grand Prix tournament pittin’ the best this company has to offer against each other with the grandest prize at stake. Except, a certain someone was excluded from that field of nine hand picked competitors.
The audience boos as Madison alludes to the fact that he wasn’t originally scheduled to be a part of the Grand Prix Tournament.
CHRIS MADISON: I know… Poor decisions. You can’t talk about the best wrestlers in Mainstream Wrestlin’ without talkin’ about Chris Madison! Without me bein’ in the mix, who knows who could have possibly walked away as World Heavyweight Champion. There certainly were some true warriors who fought with everythin’ they had. But the moment Kevin Bombay made the right decision and injected me into the picture, there was only goin’ to be one outcome! Now here I am, the winner of yet another Grand Prix Tournament, and your Mainstream Wrestlin’ World Heavyweight Champion! I overcame eight other competitors to validate everythin’ that I’ve been sayin’ since joinin’ Mainstream Wrestlin’. There is no one better in that locker room!
Frankie Morrison remains by Madison’s side, applauding him and nodding his head.
CHRIS MADISON: But winnin’ the Grand Prix tournament was only half of the battle. ‘Cause tonight, the winner, the new World Heavyweight Champion, was scheduled to make their first defense in a triple threat match against the reignin’ Television Champion and the reignin’ United States Champion - Cartier and Skye Healy…
Madison pauses for a second as he looks down to the mat.
CHRIS MADISON: Two women who could arguably stake claim to bein’ the best wrestler in Mainstream Wrestlin’. Two women that are no strangers to me. Here’s the thing… I don’t care what kind of past I’ve had with either of these two, tonight is solely about this.
He lets the championship slide down his arm into his hand and raises it above his head.
CHRIS MADISON: Cartier and Skye, I know the two of you are goin’ to come with everythin’ you got. I wouldn’t expect anythin’ else. But you better believe that I am goin’ to do everythin’ in my power to make sure that this championship stays around this waist. These fans who pack these arenas out week after week deserve a fightin’ champion who isn’t goin’ to make excuses and take on all challengers. There’s no one better to take on that role than the guy who doesn’t back down from a fight, regardless of who is on the other side of this ring!
The mention of a challenge draws out the one man who wants a piece of the new champion more than anyone else, James Edwards. The former world champion breaks through the curtain sans music to a nice ovation from the fans. A few boos are sprinkled in but "The Burning Heart" takes them in stride on his way to the ring, eyes never leaving the champ. Madison watches every step Edwards takes, never taking his eyes off of him. Morrison positions himself slightly in front of his client.
JAMES EDWARDS: I figure you know why I'm here Chris.
He walks up the stairs and steps through the ropes.
JAMES EDWARDS: I figure these people know why I'm here.
He walks straight up to Madison and offers his hand. Madison looks down at the hand in front of him, and after a slight hesitation he extends the courtesy and shakes James Edwards hand.
JAMES EDWARDS: Ain't any reason for me to be a poor sport just because things didn't go my way, but let's get back to the obvious. I lost the fight, I'll admit that, but I didn't take the fall; I didn't get beat.
He points at the belt.
JAMES EDWARDS: Which means I've got a good chance of fightin' for that sooner rather than later. And yeah I know I've got one of those in another place, but you know one ain't enough, and I want that one. It's why I'm gonna' bust my ass to get in even better shape. It's why I'm gonna perfect my craft. It's why when we fight again you are gonna get the war of your life, and it's a war I don't intend on losing!
Madison can see the fire burning within James Edwards. It was met with a refreshing smile.
CHRIS MADISON: James we’ve done this dance before. We’re no strangers to one another. But that was a different company and the stakes weren’t nearly as high. I get it. It’s tough bein’ on the losin’ side of a triple threat knowin’ that you’re not the one who was beaten. Those losses just sting a little differently, don’t they? But I can respect the fact that you were man enough to come out here, shake my hand, look me in the eyes, and while admittin’ defeat also warnin’ me that a hunger is brewin’ because someone else’s failure cost you the chance to be crowned the top guy of a second company. I’m a sucker for a good fight. To me, it looks like Frankie has some work to do with management after I successfully defend this championship here tonight!
Madison nods his head and mouths the words, “you got it,” while Frankie Morrison leans in and whispers into his ear. Edwards remains stoic and nods. He looks like he wants to say something else but decides he is better off not saying another word. He lays down mic and exits the ring. Madison moves to the ropes, watching as Edwards slowly backs up the entranceway. The two competitors keep their eyes on one another.
CHRIS MADISON: Just do me a favor James…
Edwards stops in his tracks to listen to Madison’s request.
CHRIS MADISON: Remember this moment. If we get to do this… There may be a time that I come to you with a similar request in that other place…
Edwards nods his head, acknowledging Madison.
“War Machine” by KISS begins to play over the arena’s PA system again as Chris Madison clutches the Mainstream Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship against his chest. He tilts his head, listening to the guidance of his manager, Frankie Morrison.
CHARLES HUDSON: Ladies and Gentlemen…Welcome to MAINSTREAM 72! Tonight we’ve already heard from Chris Madison our newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion who will defend against the United States Champion Skye Healy AND if that’s not enough the World Television Champion Cartier in a three way dance to determine an Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion!
MCKAYLA LEWIS: Chris Madison is already our World Champion but in the interest of fairness both Skye Healy and Cartier were provided this opportunity to make an absolute definite decision that the right person is the World Champion. We have a jam packed card for you tonight and we hope to hear from Samantha Kinsley whom is standing by with AJ Knight when we return from the commercial break!
