BACKSTAGE...
Skye Healy stands in front of a large stone brick wall. Her head tilted down, deep in thought. She focuses on the camera in front of her as if she were staring almost through the lens and to anyone watching.
SKYE HEALY: I’ve been underestimated for way too long now...People like Chris Madison will tell you that the tactics I used to get this match were underhanded. I did not politic my way into a rematch. I earned one. People like Chris Madison will stand on their pedestal and tell you that I am ‘just another bitch’.
Healy smirks and scoffs.
SKYE HEALY: And I just have to ask… How? How do you not see the things I’ve done? The work I’ve done? The people I’ve beaten? How do you look at all of it and just disregard it? I’ve said before: two generations of wrestling runs in my blood. I am a 24 year old technical wrestling prodigy. Even if my dad never stepped foot in a ring, I would’ve done enough to stand on my own feet as a star. I started as a backstage interviewer. Then a ring announcer. Then I started training in the ring. I kept pushing myself. Further and further. I became a tag team champion, a United States Champion, and even a World Champion.
“Night in, night out, I put on wrestling clinics out in that ring. You saw what I did to Trixie a few weeks ago, Madison. I ran through that girl. I am a workhorse and I will not stand by and listen to Madison and Biggs be this blatantly ignorant of who and what I am. I accepted the fact that I lost. But I also accept the fact that you’re a childish excuse for a champion and I intend on fixing that problem tonight, Madison.”
Healy grows more and more emotional with each sentence that flows out of her mouth.
SKYE HEALY: I get so flustered because I have dealt with people like you Madison my entire career! People who said I won’t amount to anything. That everything I do is fruitless and just like I proved them wrong, I will prove you wrong too. Madison, you have no idea what I’m capable of. And tonight, I take every derogatory thing you and your kind have said about me and my work and I give it back to you with the same anger and hate and jealousy you spew. I am not some little girl playing dress up, Madison. This is me. This is my life’s work. And I will be the United States Champion once again. And no one is going to stop me. Not Morrison. Not the referee. Not even you.
Skye looks sternly into the camera. Her eyes look a little glossy after that overflow of intense emotion. The camera pans away as we see her hand come up brush away any tears that might’ve collected on her face.
