Trixie and Cartier sit backstage, a heavy silence between them. Neither of them seems in any hurry to speak, and they avoid direct eye contact.
CARTIER: Trix, I…
TRIXIE: Carty, listen…
The two women talk at the same time, cutting each other off before falling again into an uneasy silence.
When Cartier takes a deep breath and leans forward, grabbing Trixie's hands in her own, her eyes well with wetness. Trixie's face is wrought with emotion as well. We see her lower lip tremble and she even closes her eyes as Cartier behind to speak, as if blocking it out.
CARTIER: Trixie… you an' me, we been on a hell of a ride. From bein' acquaintances to sharin' a LFL locker room… then here in Mainstream, becomin' underdog tag team champions when no one thought we was even on the same page. We had us a journey."
Cartier swallows hard, doing her best to keep her voice from cracking after faltering on the last word.
CARTIER: But you know, journeys they come to a end. Once you reach a destination, you gotta reset an' start a new journey. We got our goal together, Trix, but I know you an' me both got other goals that don't have the other one involved."
She waits, pressing her lips together right until they almost vanish into a thin line. Trixie starts shaking her head, then replies in a quiet voice.
TRIXIE: This has been a dream come true, C! This year in Mainstream I got more than a title, more than a tag team partner… I got a best friend. And I know, no matter what the future holds for me in my career or whether we stay in each other's corner in the ring? We'll always be in each other's corner in life.
CARTIER: That's the DAMN truth. It don't matter if we in the same town, the same state, the same country… you call me an' you need me, I'mma get there. I'mma be there for you no matter what."
TRIXIE: Awww. Well I'll be there for you too, like I said. You can count on me.
She then gets a little choked up, but manages to hold it back before it ruins her makeup
TRIXIE: The next chapter for us both will totally be filled with success.
They hug. It lingers, as neither woman is in any hurry to let go of the other.
When they finally pull away, their faces are wet with tears, but they also wear bright smiles.
CARTIER: Let's turn the page, sis.
She holds out a balled fist.
TRIXIE: Meet you there.
Trixie bumps her fist against Cartier's, and the scene fades out with the two of them locking eyes.
