FRANCHISE
"Born for Greatness" by Papa Roach plays. As the first few verses come to their end, the music pauses for a moment. All of the lights go out again, but then come right back on in full brightness!!!
NO WE'RE NOT NAMELESS
WE'RE NOT FACELESS
WE WERE BORN FOR GREATNESS!!!
WE'RE NOT FACELESS
WE WERE BORN FOR GREATNESS!!!
Suddenly, AJ Knight, Cicada, and the Mainstream World Heavyweight Champion, Billy Danielsom walk out from behind the curtain. They make their way down to the ring, and all three of them are dressed in nice suit jackets over their “The Franchise”. They all make their way up the stairs, with each one of them wiping their feet before going up to the apron, and holding the ropes open for their fellow teammates. Danielson raises the world championship high in the air, as AJ and Cicada get microphones from a ring hand.
Billy is handed one, and of the champ taps it a couple of times to make sure it’s on.
BILLY DANIELSON: BOY, This is been an exciting couple of weeks, huh? My sister-in-law got engaged, AJ and I have successfully settled out of court for a large sum of Robb Daniels’ money, i got the exclusivity clause in my contract taken out, and I AM STILL YOUR WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!!!
Cicada and Knight applaud Billy.
BILLY DANIELSON: You know, I’ve been known to call myself the Greatest of All Time. A lot of people have tried to dispute that claim, but no matter what has happened, when all the chips are down and the deck is stacked against me, I ALWAYS come out on top. Everything that Robb has done to try and hold me down, hold The Franchise down, we still come out on top, and that is why we are ALL COLLECTIVELY the Greatests of All Time. AJ, Cicada, James Edwards... may he rest in peace...
Billy, Knight, and Cicada all lower their heads for a moment of silence for their definitely not dead former stablemate. After 3 and half seconds they all put their heads back up like nothing had been said.
BILLY DANIELSON: … AND yours truly. We are the greats in this company. We are the ones who have always ran this company. We are The Franchise, and tonight it is all about us!
Billy steps back and AJ Knight steps forward. Billy pats him on the back and CIcada claps for for his teammates.
AJ KNIGHT: Tonight IS[/] all about The Franchise, and that makes tonight a great night in Mainstream’s history. Billy and I get to induct not one, but two new members into the Franchise. Thanks to the fantastic skill and athletic ability of Billy Danielson, and the divine intervention of an all time great.
AJ hoists his arms high overhead, as Billy hugs him and Cicada nods in approval.
AJ KNIGHT: You’re all welcome! But in addition to all that, we managed to stick it to Robb Daniels once again. He tried to hold us down. He tried to leave you to the wolves Billy, but like we always do WE PREVAILED!! Now I suppose you’re all wondering how I got in last time…
Dramatic pause… only for AJ to let the question completely drop.
AJ KNIGHT: But now it is my honor and pleasure to induct into The Franchise, which is by the way an honor more prestigious than the Hall of Fame I might add, Cicada. Now this is a man whose accomplishments are beyond measure. More than I can explain really. I’m not talking about that odd two week run with the tag titles. I’m talking about the man behind the mask. One of very few men, who have the pedigree, the skill and indeed the moral fiber to join us in our noble cause! I’d love to say more, but I think the man himself should tell you more. Cicada? The floor is yours brother!
AJ tosses the microphone to Cicada who catches it without looking. AJ and Billy applaud him. Cicada goes to speak, but all of a sudden, the opening sirens to “Indestructible” by Disturbed, blasts throughout the arena and Billy Danieilson, Cicada, and AJ Knight seem uncomfortable, with Billy Danielson in particular looking like he’s seen a ghost.
Billy walks up to the ropes, clutching his World Title belt in his arms tightly and seems to yell “I ENDED YOU!” repeatedly at the vacant ramp. Billy continues to yell as “Indestructible” reverberates through the mostly empty arena. As quickly as the music began, it dies. “The Franchise” all look at each other and begin laughing at each other, with Billy Danielson laughing hysterically, in particular. Cicada now takes center stage as he steps in front of Danielson and directly in front of the camera. He raises his right hand, clasping the top of his mask as he slowly pulls it downward, and off his face, allowing it to fall to the canvas.
CHARLES HUDSON: What?
MCKAYLA LEWIS: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
CHARLES HUDSON: Cicada was BRYAN BLAZE!
Indeed, as the commentary team has spoiled, Cicada is revealed to be Bryan Blaze, all along. Danielson and Blaze stare at one another, each with a smirk on their face...and they hug!
MCKAYLA LEWIS: This makes me absolutely sick.
Danielson hands the microphone to Blaze.
BRYAN BLAZE: Did you miss me?
Blaze laughs to himself as he runs his hand down his face.
BRYAN BLAZE: Well, as you can see, just like Billy Danielson in regards to Robb Daniels, I’m always one step ahead!
“Now, I’m sure you’re all asking yourselves why I would dare join forces with Billy Danielson yet again. You are questioning why I would join my sworn enemy. The man that just a few months ago, I was hell bent on destroying; ending his career. I said it was the best thing for the world of wrestling, to eradicate Billy Danielson.”
“What happened?”
“Well, in short, I’ve seen the bigger picture. I’ve seen that all along, it wasn’t Billy Danielson that was the problem here in Mainstream.”
“It was Robb Daniels. That’s why I let AJ Knight back into the building, and that’s why I guaranteed the success of The Franchise.”
MCKAYLA LEWIS: Oh, what a load of crap!
BRYAN BLAZE: From the beginning, Robb knew of our issues with each other, and he used that to ensure we both wouldn’t reach our potential in this company. He fanned the flames of our personal issues, and we had no other option that land on a collision course with one another. Like others before him, Robb was scared of what would occur if we were aligned as one. Robb wanted to be the puppet master, and I played for so long. Robb wanted to keep Billy down, and I was nothing but a pawn to that end. For a while it worked.
“It didn’t even dawn on me when he did the EXACT same thing when I faced Hammerstein for the World Title. What should have focused on the top two men in the company at the time, it became Hammerstein vs Robb Daniels’ champion. I was an afterthought, like I always am. That was the whole reason why I became Cicada 2 years ago, because he never saw me as a Franchise wrestler, even though I am a Triple Crown Champion! I had to create a whole new persona, because Robb chose some asshole nobody remembers over me. Well, that ENDS TONIGHT.”
“Ever since I ‘left’, Robb Daniels has, over and over again, proven himself incapable of running this company in an unbiased manner. He is a selfish tyrant, and The Franchise is here to usurp him.”
BILLY DANIELSON: However, before we overthrow Robb Daniels… we have one more member of The Franchise to introduce… Andrew… GET OUT HERE!!!
*BOOM!...click-BOOM! BOOM!-click*
*BOOM!...click-BOOM! BOOM!-click-click*
The sound of shotguns firing in rhythm takes over the PA, leading right into the main riff of Limp Bizkit’s “Shotgun.” A.J. Morales emerges, looking like he got into a scrap and lost before he even got into the studio. He isn’t even changed out of his street clothes—if it wasn’t for the NVR R!ZE Championship belt around his waist, he’d just look like a 49ers fan with half-dyed hair who somehow wandered in from off the street. Morales takes his sweet time getting down the ramp, his body language telling us exactly how much he doesn’t want to be here.
BILLY DANIELSON: Hey hey, what’s good, young boy? Here, lemme fix you up a bit…
Billy takes out a T-shirt with obvious Gatorade stains and forces it over A.J.’s head. As Morales straightens it out and tucks it in, he realizes this is the same Franchise tee he rejected months ago.
BILLY DANIELSON: Come on, Andy boy!!! Be happy! Show everyone how proud you are to be a member of the greatest stable of champions in Mainstream History! You’re now up there with the names of the likes of our Late Great James Edwards...
Bryan, Knight, and Billy all do a cross and send a prayer up, even though James probably isn’t dead.
BILLY DANIELSON: The Phenomenal A-J Knight…
AJ Knight tries out a new pose where he puts his hands together over his head as if his hands were showing something we can’t see, because it’s meta and nobody reads these things
BILLY DANIELSON: Indestructible Bryan Blaze…
Blaze raises the Cicada mask in the air in triumph
BILLY DANIELSON: AND THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME AND STILL YOUR MAINSTREAM WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION… ME!!!
A.J. still looks reluctant to even be there. So Knight pats Morales on the back unnecessarily hard and then Bryan shoves a mic in his chest as hard as he can, making Morales take a step back from the force.
BILLY DANIELSON: Go ahead, buddy. Tell us how great it is to be a Franchise Player.
Billy, AJ and Bryan all look at A.J. with malice in their eyes, as if they were going to beat him up if he didn’t say something. Morales waves them down, and then puts the mic to his mouth.
A.J. MORALES: A’right, listen...I had my initiation ceremony before the show, I don’t need another one.
The other three Franchise members exchange knowing looks behind Morales’s back and almost crack up, but they keep it together enough that their new member doesn’t notice.
“So lemme keep this quick...people put a lot of things on the line in luchas de apuestas—their hair, their masks, their titles, even their careers—but there’s one thing that means more to a luchador than anything else, and that’s his word. At Mainstream 41, I gave my word that, if I didn’t beat Billy Danielson for the World Heavyweight Championship, I’d leave the Scooby Gang and join the Franchise. Two weeks ago, that match happened...and I lost. A.J. gets those last three words out through gritted teeth, lowering his head for a couple seconds afterwards so we can’t see the exact look on his face. When he does look up again, he’s clearly trying his hardest to stay composed.”
“Whatever I might think of that, I still gave my word. And if I break my word now, nothing I do or say will ever un-break it. So however long I’m meant to be a Franchise player? That’s exactly what I’m gonna be.”
A.J. turns to face the rest of the group.
A.J. MORALES: Hey Billy...tell ‘em what our next move is.
Morales graciously hands over the mic to the G.O.A.T., heading to join Knight and Blaze as Danielson takes back center stage.
BILLY DANIELSON: Now that Andrew over here has accepted his rightful place beneath my right boot, with my greatest friend and my greatest rival at either side of me, we are going to continue our reign of dominance. Tedmund, Julianna, and Glow in the Dark, your days are numbered. Jason and Hammerstein, your futile uphill battles start now. I’m never giving up this title, and soon my brothers here will all be holding gold with me. The best part is, there is nobody that can stop us, not even Robbert Q. Daniels.
MCKAYLA LEWIS: I cannot believe what I have just seen.
CHARLES HUDSON: That is a scary faction of people standing in front of us right now. 18 individual title reigns here in Mainstream, 2 Emerald City Classics, a Pride Grand Prix winner, and multiple year end awards. That is a STRONG resume they have now, and it was already a really strong resume.
Billy drops the mic and everyone, including a reluctant A.J. Morales moves in for a group hug/huddle type deal. “Born for Greatness” by Papa Roach begins to play as the scene fades to black.
